Preventing obesity from sedentary routines requires a multi-faceted approach that focuses on promoting physical activity, reducing sedentary behaviors, and adopting healthy lifestyle habits. Here are some strategies that can help in preventing obesity:
Encourage children and adolescents to engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day. This can include activities such as walking, cycling, sports, dancing, or any other form of exercise that they enjoy.
Establish limits on screen time, including television, computers, video games, and smartphones. Aim for no more than two hours of recreational screen time per day. Encourage children to engage in alternative activities such as reading, playing outside, or participating in hobbies.
Make physical activity accessible and appealing by creating an environment that promotes it. Provide opportunities for organized sports, active play, or structured activities within schools, communities, or families.
Promote active transportation: Encourage walking or biking to school, if possible. Promote the use of public transportation or walking for short distances instead of relying solely on cars.
Be a role model by engaging in regular physical activity and limiting sedentary behaviors. Children learn from their parents' behaviors, so it is important to set a good example.
Teach children and their families about the benefits of physical activity and the risks of a sedentary lifestyle. Provide information on healthy eating habits and the importance of a balanced diet.
Schools, communities, and families can work together to create an environment that supports and encourages physical activity. This can include providing safe places to play, organizing active events, or integrating physical activity into school curricula.
Promote healthy eating habits, including a balanced and nutritious diet. Encourage the consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and limit the intake of sugary drinks and processed foods.

Sports can play a significant role in supporting Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Prevention-Alternatives to Suspension Programs (P-ATS) within a school environment.

It is important to remember that preventing obesity requires consistent effort and a long-term commitment. By implementing these strategies and promoting a culture of health and physical activity, we can help children and adolescents develop healthy habits and prevent obesity from sedentary routines.
Physical literacy can play a significant role in fighting obesity by helping individuals develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence to engage in regular physical activity.
What parents might not know is that kids who get regular physical activity and play sport, are not only healthier, but also get better grades, are better adjusted emotionally and have better social skills.
Research shows that it is very important to start developing physical literacy in early childhood prior to adolescence. I would really like to see our school as a leader in physical literacy programming.
But while parents might agree that physical activity is important, many have yet to appreciate that it can affect much more than their child’s health.
In other words, physical skills can be a multiplier for all the other skills your kids need to be successful. A child who is running and jumping and physically competent is also better cognitively, socially and emotionally.
Our mission at Clayton Academy is to help you develop your child’s executive skills and physical literacy so they can live complete lives.
The time has come for all parents to know and share with others the fact that physically-literate children are better suited to handle any challenge they face in life.
It’s time for parents to teach their kids simple skills early, and it’s time to get our kids moving more and better at school. Physical literacy is good for each individual child, but it’s also a gift to our future generations if we all make it a focus and priority now.
Physical literacy has been identified by experts in physical education, sport, and even cognitive science as a key ingredient in raising healthy, happy, and successful children.
It provides the foundation for kids to enjoy physical activity and sports, but it also has far-reaching implications for their brain development, scholastic performance, and wellbeing in general.
